ALEXANDRA PARK MEDICAL CENTRE UPDATE SEPTEMBER 2023

Appointment bookings have been quite difficult over the last few months more with having Doctors on annual leave or away sick. Everyone’s patience and understanding has been appreciated.

We request that patients are mindful to give suitable notice to cancel an appointment. Particularly, if it is a longer appointment, such as procedures or clinic/GPMP. SMS text confirmation messages are sent the day before for such longer appointments and procedures.

When booking your appointment, be sure to make a note of the day and time in your phone or diary, as we do not send SMS reminders out for ordinary appointments.

“No shows” inconvenience both staff and other patients. So, from the 1st November the surgery will be implementing a $20 “no show” fee for failure to notify of inability to attend your appointment.

APMC Caring for your health needs
  • The Queensland Government has declared it is transitioning away from treating COVID-19 as an emergency, to managing it in the same way it manages other notifiable conditions.

  • Masks may still be worn if desired, but they will not be a requirement to enter the practice for patients who are not suffering from cold/flu symptoms.

  • All patients with a fever, cough, runny nose, sneezing should inform the receptionist when they phone for an appointment.

  • Patients with the above symptoms will now be required to wait on the verandah wearing a mask until the Doctor is ready to see them. You no longer have to park around the rear of the surgery.

  • We will continue to monitor any further developments, and if restrictions are put back in place with any potential future escalations of COVID-19.

Staff Updates

Dr Byrnes has no plans to retire as yet. He is just slowing down slightly, and now is working Monday, Tuesday, Thursday. He has just welcomed 2 new Grandbabies into the world, with a total now of 7 Grandchildren, which he is thoroughly enjoying the extra down time to be a Grandad.

Our Registered Nurse Abbie, is now qualified to perform cervical screening. Appointments can be made directly into her if that is all you were requiring.

Casey, our receptionist, is currently undertaking a Medical Assisting Course. Once completed she will be able to assist our Nurses with basic nursing duties.
